What to Do If You Run Out of Gas in New Jersey
A simple safety checklist when your fuel tank reaches empty, including what to share for roadside fuel delivery.
Get out of the travel lane
If possible, coast to a safe shoulder or parking area, turn on hazard lights, and stay away from moving traffic. Do not walk along a highway looking for fuel.
Confirm the fuel type
Tell the technician whether the vehicle uses regular gasoline, diesel, or another fuel. Share the nearest exit, cross street, or landmark so the delivery can find you.
